Weekly Meeting May 30, 2018

Eleven members got up early for our monthly morning meeting at the Easton Indoor Market, and since Barb’s Wednesday morning bowling is over for the summer, our secretary is back! Our Super Raffle, the major fund-raiser for our club will be on June 13, and Joanne has 9 + tickets remaining, so keep on selling!  Let’s hope we can post a picture like we did 5 years ago: SOLD OUT.  We can but you  will all have to help us get there. Pres. Bill reminded us to not rely on e-mails; sometimes you have to make that personal contact to get the sale. Barb and Janet will be the greeters for the event.   Walt let us know that our SLP’s are done for the school year, but all the teacher-advisors have expressed a desire to continue next year as long as they are assigned to the same schools.  July 16 is Palmer Kiwanis Golf Tournament; if you are interested in playing just let Pres. Bill know.  Pres. Bill gave us the news that the PA Kiwanis Foundation has approved a $2500 grant for our 100thanniversary project and that he is still awaiting news on several other grants that he has applied for.  James let us know of a possible end of school year event for the opioid awareness committee at the Charter school in conjunction with the police department.  The opioid awareness committee has partnered with New Beginnings for an event this Saturday at the Bushkill Fire Department.  One speaker will be Joe Kane from Wilkes Barre; if you have never heard him speak try to be there and hear his powerful story.  They will also have a tricky tray fund-raiser.  Janet has applied with Applebee’s for another flapjack fundraiser on November 10 and is awaiting confirmation of the date.  James told us of his adventure this past weekend of a 32 hour motorcycle run scavenger hunt; 29 hours on the saddle with a mandatory 3 hour rest period covering 1670 miles, including crashing a wedding! (I’ll let you decide which is James’ bike.)

Be sure to join us next week for our regular noon time meeting at the Pomfret Club. Members are always expected; and guests are always welcome!
