On April 12, 1963 the Kiwanis Foundation of Easton was incorporated. The predecessor of the current Foundation was an initial gift of $1000 by Robert S. Gerstell, the 1923 president of the club and additional generous gifts from other members and business leaders; Kenneth F. Kressler, Herman D. Wolff and others. The original intent was to provide an Easton young man with a scholarship at Lafayette College. Over the years the club was providing a scholarship at Lafayette but in the early 1960’s a slow economy was affecting the program. Our Kiwanis leaders felt the need to carry the program forward so the Foundation was formed. Initial assets of the Foundation in the amount of $3500 were later funded by the Kiwanis Travelog, investments, additional gifts, bequests and many years of other assorted fund-raisers. Today the Foundation’s assets exceed several hundred thousand dollars. The Foundation has expanded beyond scholarships and has provided capital funding for worthy local organizations; Red Cross station wagon, State Theatre, Easton Emergency Squad van, Hugh Moore Park Canal Museum boat, Salvation Army van,  YMCA Family Day-camp and many others. Many times members and friends honor those who die with a financial gift in their name to the Foundation; a fitting tribute to any Kiwanian. The Foundation Board meets quarterly to review all requests for funds made to them throughout the year.
